ABOUT OUR LADY OF THE NEW ADVENT Dear Reader, "Our Lady of the New Advent" is a title we Catholics give to the Blessed
Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. God loved us so that He created us. The One who would love us into existence wants us to love Him back. He wants us to love Him back, that is, to give Him glory and praise back. The good God would show us how. He would not and did not leave us orphans to wander without his Word to guide us. He sent his own son, Jesus, to become flesh and blood to show us how to love God back. For those who like radical action, that's radical. The way Jesus showed us to love God back was to lay down his life for us on a cross. He gave his life in ransom for our sins. Your sins and mine. He proved he is God by rising from the dead. He could bear us no greater love than to lay down his life for us. He calls us to do the same for him. He is our Lord and Savior. Even his name Jesus means "God Saves". We give him many titles: King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Lamb of God, Prince of Peace.... Just so, we give his Mother many titles, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, Queen of Peace, Morning Star, Our Lady of the New Advent... We call her "Our Blessed Mother". In the Bible, St. Luke tells us that all generations will call her blessed. So we do! She is Jesus' Mother. He gave her to us from the cross. She is our Mother now, our "Blessed Mother". "Our Lady of the New Advent" is one more expression of our love and gratitude to her for giving us her Son, the Son of God. We call on her with that name to ask her help and protection in the preparation time for the coming of the Great Jubilee in the year 2000. Advent means "coming". Yes, the Great Jubilee is coming. Wow! 2000 years of Jesus' active presence among us. God among us, one of us! And the greatest of his saints among us for that whole time is his own Mother, Our Blessed Mother, Our Lady! Jesus loves her. So do we. |
